Compost Tea and Brewer

Compost TeaCompost tea is a concentrated liquid created by mixing vermicompost with dechlorinated water, then aerating this mixture for about 24 hours. When made with good quality vermicompost and brewed using correct practices, it can contain more biological activity than was present in the original vermicompost. Compost tea can then be applied by drenching the roots or as a foliar spray. Applying compost tea to soil in the root zone stimulates biological activity at the root’s surface, which can enhance nutrient cycling and disease suppression . Some studies have also shown that microorganisms in the tea colonize the leaf surface, essentially protecting the leaf from colonization by pathogenic organisms. Compost teas are very versatile and easy to make, but they do not keep very long. It is most practical to make compost teas where they are to be used.

Need compost tea?

At Soil Stewardship we sell compost tea to locals (Ft. Collins or nearby) by request. If compost tea is desired outside this area, we recommend using our vermicompost to make your tea on-site. Contact us for how we can work together on this together.

Need a tea brewer?

We have some! While most tea brewers can cost $500 or more, we have developed a very simple model using a 5 gallon bucket and a simple aeration system that you can order from us for $50. This includes an informational booklet by Soil Stewardship, enough vermicompost to make 4 batches (20 gallons of tea), and an activator material which is produced by a company with good experience in this area. This little brewer is perfect for beginning your journey with compost tea. Please contact us to purchase.
