Compost Tea and Brewer
Compost tea is a concentrated liquid created by mixing vermicompost with dechlorinated water, then aerating this mixture for about 24 hours. When made with good quality vermicompost and brewed using correct practices, it can contain more biological activity than was present in the original vermicompost. Compost tea can then be applied by drenching the roots or as a foliar spray. Applying compost tea to soil in the root zone stimulates biological activity at the root’s surface, which can enhance nutrient cycling and disease suppression . Some studies have also shown that microorganisms in the tea colonize the leaf surface, essentially protecting the leaf from colonization by pathogenic organisms. Compost teas are very versatile and easy to make, but they do not keep very long. It is most practical to make compost teas where they are to be used.
