Rocky Mountain Soil Stewardship
About Soil Stewardship
Soil Stewardship is a burgeoning Colorado business that is committed to local, sustainable, and organic practices. We sell a variety of products that are great for soils, plants, and the environment—and by default, this makes them great for you too! Our compost and vermicompost are produced using materials from the local community and the manure from our beautiful horses. Our products are annually tested using the Test Methods for the Examination of Composting and Compost (TMECC) developed by the U.S. Composting Council. We strive to provide our clients with fresh and biologically active vermicompost and compost, from our farm to you.
About Us
We are located on a small horse farm near Fort Collins, CO, which sits at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Founder Kathy Doesken, a soil scientist graduate from Colorado State University, and her crew have been making compost here for years, but it was not until the spring of 2007 that we all realized the power of worms. That previous fall we had accidentally created ideal conditions for composting worms, which we had been quietly ignoring for years. Over winter they had done what composting worms do: eaten through all our partially made compost, increased in numbers, and excreted casts (worm manure). The resulting matrix of compost and worm casts was vermicompost! Since 2007, we have been intentionally recreating the most ideal living conditions for these amazing creatures. They efficiently and quietly produce vermicompost for us, their caretakers. After all these years, we are excited to share our vermicompost and other compost-related services with the public.
